Jorge Arnanz

Born and raised in Madrid, Jorge is the latest recruit to the Madrid & Beyond team. He boasts a very international look to his academic background, having divided his time between Spain and France for his BA and between UK and France for his MA in European Tourism Management.

He has worked in many fields within the travel industry, including international hotel chains in Spain and the UK as well as working for Spain’s largest travel company.
Jorge has a broad knowledge of Spain, especially the Madrid and its surroundings, Asturias and Cantabria. He’s a keen traveler and apart from the Iberian Peninsular, he’s visited many countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
He’s keen on mountain sports, biking, art, literature and history. He’s now finishing a Bachelor Degree in Primary English Teaching, which is related to another of his passions… foreign languages.

Favourite Special Experience: Chilling out with a cocktail, seating in a bar terrace over viewing one of the wonderful beaches in the North of Spain after a long day of touring… Unbeatable!
Favourite Hotels: It is difficult to choose just one… However, I can just tell that I prefer to stay in charming, historic boutique hotels rather than big hotel chains (despite my work experience…)
Best meal: I consider myself a foodie so I will list some… Seafood in Galicia and Asturias, Beef sirloin steak in el Puerto de Los Leones between Madrid and Segovia, “Cocido Maragato” (a typical stew from the Leon region) in Castrillo de los Polvazares (Leon). Apart from that I love tapas in Madrid and Granada and pintxos in the Basque Country.
Favourite Monuments / Museums:

La Sagrada Familia (Barcelona), Alcazar (Segovia), Pre-Romanesque churches in Asturias (Santa Maria del Naranco, San Miguel de Lillo) and the Egyptian Templo de Debod in Madrid. My favourite museums are the Prado Museum in Madrid and the Inquisition Museum in Santillana del Mar (creepy but really interesting!)

Favourite Fiesta: Las Fallas” in Valencia, “La Feria de Malaga” (incredibly lively summer festival in Malaga) and the typical fiestas in my hometown, Madrid (“San Isidro” in May and “San Cayetano, San Lorenzo y La Paloma”- three festivals in a row in August!)
Favourite Escape: On the weekends I love doing some excursions in the surrounding areas near Madrid, biking around the city and hiking in the nearby Sierra de Guadarrama.
