Galicia, in the green north-east, is increasingly popular with Spanish visitors and still displays its strong Celtic character, with a renowned tradition for music, folklore and food, especially and as to be expected seafood, as well as its own language, Gallego.

Inland, small picturesque villages dot the brilliantly green countryside where traditional farming methods are still in use. In 1999, Galicia was host to the ‘Xacobea’ festival celebrating the famous ‘Camino de Santiago’ (St. James’ Way) which is still trodden by pilgrims from around the world.

Stunning sandy beaches and river-mouths, around which many towns have developed, interrupt the craggy coastline of this fascinating and singular land.
