Once away from the packed beaches of the Costa del Sol, the province of Malaga offers natural beauty, impressive mountain ranges and quintessentially Andalucian white villages. Here in this province are some of Spain's most attractive accommodations.
The city of Malaga does not have the architectural beauty of Granada, Sevilla or Cordoba, but does offer the visitor many attractions as well as some excellent fish restaurants.
Driving up away from the coast and into the hills, the white villages of Ronda, Zahara de la Sierra and Ubrique deserve special mention. Along with that of Béjar in Salamanca, Ronda claims to play host to the oldest bullring in Spain. What is not disputed is that this venerated bullring is a mecca for all aficionados of La Corrida (now with an interesting museum attached). The full majesty of Ronda however is its dramatic setting, perched on an isolated ridge with a 130 metre drop on 3 sides. Not surprisingly, it has enticed settlers and visitors here down the centuries.
Beyond the village lies the little known but extraordinarily scenic Serrania de Ronda, an area of great diversity and beauty.
The busiest beaches of Spain are along the Costa del Sol, which is good if you're seeking atmosphere and fun. There are quiet, picturesque beaches but they are hard to find.
