Soria

Before the crowns of Castilla and Aragón were united at the end of the 15th century, Soria, wedged between these competing kingdoms, played a pivotal role and prospered from commercial and political activity. However, as with so many towns in the north of Spain, it fell from a position of importance to relative obscurity.

Today, the province attracts visitors not so much to see the legacy of medieval 'spaniards' but rather the impressive Roman ruins around Numancia. To the north of the province lies the Sierra de Urbión, an area of wild beauty which remains delightfully unspoiled. The main attraction of the Sierra, which stretches into La Rioja, has to be the glacial lake of Laguna Negra
