We owe an enormous debt to the Spanish chefs of the last 15-20 years. They have done so much to put Spain so firmly at the top of the culinary world. The world’s top food critics consistently cite Spanish restaurants in their top ten lists, and as of May 2013, according to the Restaurant Magazine, El Celler de Can Roca is the World’s number 1 restaurant, joined by two other Spanish (Basque) restaurants in the Top Ten.
There is a staggering amount written about Spanish food… but suffice to say, you don’t have to eat at the best gourmet restaurants, you can also indulge in incredibly delicious dishes and tapas in all corners of the country, and in all types of establishments and it won’t cost you a King’s ransom! Food is a big part of the trips we arrange, as we encourage you to experience Spanish cuisine in all its guises. Eating is fun and it’s an integral part of the culture… and whilst we don’t know every single gastronomic nook and cranny, we’re fairly good at pointing you in the right direction. We really urge you to get involved, participate and experience food with some of our expert hosts and collaborators. There’s something for everyone…
… We can arrange inside access to experienced chefs such as Eneko Atxa, (the youngest ever chef to achieve 3 Michelin stars ). We also take clients on private and exclusive visits to traditional and contemporary olive mills, specialist goat ’s cheese farms, and delve deep inside the World of Spain ’s world famous ‘jamón ibérico’. You can even meet Spain’s national ‘jamón’ cutting champion! & of course, there’s time for tapas too..., with a wonderful range of characters playing host and providing unforgettable tapas experiences.
We arrange cooking classes in almost every major city, working with some wonderful characters. We strongly recommend these fun experiences as part of your cultural immersion!
Whether you are a specialist gastronomy group traveling with a chef (yes, we do trips for you!) or just keen to savor the taste and atmosphere of eating in Spain, we’ll be glad to set up some special treats in some or every city on your journey. ¡Buen provecho!
