A Day Hiking in the Alpujarras

The Alpujarra, a hidden corner of Spain which shows rural life as it was lived for centuries, is an ideal place to unwind, explore and stretch your legs. This range of valleys and hills in the lee of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada is criss-crossed by trails which meander through orchards and cultivated terraces, woods, meadows and crystal-clear mountain streams. You will explore some of these trails with your guide, stopping along the way to enjoy the views.

The visit will also take in a couple of the distinctive Alpujarra villages which cling to the steep slopes of the Poqueira Gorge, and which owe much of their character to the eight centuries of Moorish (and particularly Berber) influence. Here we will find shops offering local crafts such as basketwork, weavings and pottery. A picnic lunch is included, made from fresh local ingredients, which we will enjoy on one of the trails.

All in all, this is the place to disconnect and immerse oneself in the simpler things of life. The route aims to incorporate as much local culture as much as possible.
